“homer’s enemy” is such a fascinating simpsons episode because although it was largely panned by viewers for being too dark (even by the show’s standards), it’s gone on to become the number 1-rated simpsons episode of all time [according to IMDB] and most people who were young kids at the time the episode first aired (myself included) consider it one of the most iconic and classic episodes of the series
like damn, it was always a running joke that homer is much too incompetent and lazy for his line of work and yet somehow still manages to live in a decent 2-story home in a nice neighborhood but this episode hit it on the fucking nose with how unfair and ludicrous it all is

Golden Age
When people compare the greatness that is The Simpsons to other animated shows like Family Guy it makes me want to set myself on fire
I went on a date last year and jokingly said “Don’t ask me I’m just a girl” and giggled at a 35 year old man thinking he’d get the reference and instead he said “that’s what I like to hear.”
Men are gross ^
my favorite simpsons joke is not a single thing but the running gag where someone panics and jumps out a window in terror. the pta is disbanded is probably the best entry though.
this is long but very reasonably brutal
What gets me is, the writers say Lisa is their favorite, the one they relate to, and you CAN sort of superficially see that, on paper. That’d be why she suffers so much, because trying repeatedly and failing repeatedly in a terrible rut, surrounded by people who don’t understand or want to understand, is kinda the rawest most relatable thing there is.
….But if you look around online, you’ll find that the audience just hates the fucking shit out of Lisa. People describe her as whiny and preachy, they see her as practically the villain of the show, Republicans even think she’s intentionally a mockery of “bleeding heart liberalism” and “fans” love episodes that “take her down a peg.”
Any behind-the-scenes intention of her as the show’s true underdog (which we only have a little word of mouth to go by) is totally lost in practice. If more people need it explained to them than not, then it just really isn’t good satire, but nasty cynicism for cynicism’s sake.
